Our Daniel R. Martin Masterworks season kicks off with a lively new orchestral work by Juan Pablo Contreras titled MeChicano – co-commissioned by the Fresno Philharmonic in partnership with New Music USA’s Amplifying Voices program – which celebrates the popular music of Mexican-American communities which have flourished in the U.S. Dazzling violinist Chee-Yun returns to Fresno for Lalo’s Symphonie espagnole, which is suffused with Spanish dance rhythms. Our orchestral dance party concludes with Rachmaninoff’s enigmatic Symphonic Dances which pushes the limits of symphonic structure.
