When mentioning the high speed rail in California, it certainly conjures many emotions and thoughts: excitement, disappointment, wasteful, the first of its kind (in the US), a money sinkhole, etc. I, probably alongside many, don’t know if it’ll actually be operational anytime in the upcoming decades, but it has had a different impact as well: jobs. The project has provided over 10k jobs, and that’s mostly for us Central Valley folks. Just yesterday, the High-Speed Rail Authority (the entity in charge of the high speed rail) announced the completion of a bullet train bridge, located at the Cedar Avenue viaduct at the south end of Fresno. If anything, it’s just a very expensive landmark, for now.
